A Check Is Not a Life
If the jobs go, a floor under people is necessary. It is also not meaning, not power, and not ownership. UBI as a full answer is how elites sleep.

I will say the part that makes both tribes itchy.
If machines keep eating wages, you either put a floor under people or you get broken cities. Call the floor UBI, dividend, whatever. The name is branding. The function is a lid on panic.
That does not make it a promised land.
A transfer keeps you quiet. It does not make you needed.
People do not only want calories. They want a reason a stranger would miss them if they vanished. A check does not do that. A check makes you a customer of your own country.
Customers are easy to manage. Citizens are a pain. Guess which one a stipend-only future prefers.
Who owns the thing that replaced you
If the models, the data, and the pipes belong to ten firms, your monthly deposit is an allowance. Allowances come with lectures. Allowances can shrink in a crisis. Allowances turn into a debate about who deserves to eat.
I would rather fight for a claim on the upside: public models, worker funds, a tax that actually lands on the surplus, housing so the floor is not just more rent for landlords. A check into a broken supply system is a raise for whoever already owns the scarce stuff.
Stop selling the beach
The beach version of UBI is a lie told by people who already have purpose, status, and a calendar full of calls. A lot of humans, given only money and a feed, do not blossom. They disappear. We have evidence. We just do not like it.
Pair a floor with work that is obviously real: care, housing, grid, teaching, fixing places we already wrecked. Not fake jobs. Jobs the market underpays because the market is not a god.
If your UBI pitch has no cost, no enemy, and no theory of meaning, it is not policy. It is a lullaby.
A floor so people do not break. Power so they are not pets. Work so they are still in the story.
Anything less is a kennel with better copy.

Nobody has to fire you if they can wait you out, freeze the seat, and let the model absorb your queue. Attrition is the polite word for getting deleted.

If AI keeps eating paid work, some form of floor under people is not idealism. It is crowd control with a nicer name. The fight is who pays, who owns the models, and what a life is for when wages thin out.
