Your Copilot Is Training Your Replacement
Every prompt you paste into the company tool is a lesson. You are faster this week. The firm is cheaper forever. Guess which one they keep.

Augmentation has a sales pitch: you plus the machine beats you alone.
True. Also incomplete.
You plus the machine also produces a log. The log is how they measure you. Then it is how they clone the easy parts of you. Then it is how they staff the easy parts without you.
You think you are getting a superpower. You are often building the training set.
Speed is the bait
Of course you use it. The person next to you uses it. The client wants the deck tonight. Refusing the tool is a great way to become the bottleneck with principles.
So you feed it your voice, your shortcuts, your templates, your "here is how we actually do this." You get the dopamine of a finished page. The company gets a repeatable motion.
Repeatable motions do not need expensive humans. They need a cheaper human to click approve, then maybe not even that.
Keep the part they cannot scrape
If you are going to augment, augment toward things that do not paste cleanly: the client who trusts you, the call where the number is a lie, the taste to kill a bad idea, the liability if it blows up.
Write the private version first, even ugly. Then use the machine. If you start with the machine, you are renting your thinking from a vendor and donating the residue to your employer.
That is not a partnership. That is unpaid R&D with a smile.
Ask who owns the surplus
If you got 40 percent faster and your comp is flat, you already know the answer.
Renegotiate in outcomes. Or take the surplus somewhere they cannot freeze it: a specialism with a name, a book of work, a product, a reputation people search without the company URL in front of it.
Otherwise you are a well-augmented cost. Costs get optimized. That is the whole job of the people above you.

No. It is too late to change careers blindly. AI makes lazy switches riskier and targeted switches more valuable. Here is how to decide without burning another year.
